Good reasons to attend

Sole provider of SEI training in Asia Pacific. This Introduction to the CMMI course (or Introduction to Capability Maturity Model®-Integrated (CMMISM) - Systems Engineering and Software Engineering V1.0, Continuous Representation) is the official course developed by the CMMI Product Development, under the coordination of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in the U.S. The SQI is currently the sole SEI Transition Partner for CMMI in the Asia-Pacific Region; therefore, this presentation is distinguished from any other CMMI introductory course currently being offered in the Asia-Pacific region..

Cost effective training. As such it offers an outstanding opportunity and value for money for organisations wishing to train their staff in CMMI without the expense of sending them to the United States, or having a US-based presenter travel to the Asia Pacific for an on-site course.

Capability assessment becoming more common. Learning about the CMMI is to prepare for the future. It is becoming increasingly likely that buyers of large-scale software intensive systems (from both public and private sectors) will manage their risk by making some kind of software development capability assessment a condition of tender. This will enable them to assess, how likely it is the supplier can deliver the required system on time, within budget.

Positioning for future success. Software development organisations can position themselves to be successful in the increasingly profitable but competitive IT services market. The CMMI can make your organisation more competitive or efficient by helping to reduce the length of time taken to develop software, reduce the number of defects and subsequent rework, reduce overall development costs, and reduce the subsequent time-to-market. A further benefit is that the developed system is more likely to perform well, resulting in a satisfied customer.

Who Should attend

  • Systems and software engineering managers and practitioners interested in understanding the Capability Maturity Model-Integrated
  • Practitioners who may be involved in CMMI-based assessment
  • Systems and Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG/EPG) members who are leading process improvement
  • Acquirers of software and systems

Prerequisites

Participants must have knowledge of systems and/or software engineering. Project management knowledge is an advantage, including exposure to quality assurance, configuration management, and basic management principles. No process improvement of process improvement model experience is assumed. This course fulfills one of the prerequisites for CMMI-Based assessor training.

What attendees will achieve
This comprehensive, practical course will promote an understanding of:

  • The broad rationale for process improvement as tool for increased efficiency.
  • The necessity of defining their engineering development processes.
  • The architecture of the CMMI model (capability levels, process areas, goals, and generic practices).
  • Prerequisite knowledge to be trained as an assessment team member.
  • How to apply CMMI principles in order to meet the needs of systems and software engineering organizations.

Course Description

The Introduction to Capability Maturity Model-Integrated - SE/SW V1.0, Continuous Representation course introduces you to the conceptual basis of the CMM-Integrated Model. This three day course promotes a thorough understanding of the six capability levels and their associated process areas (PAs). The course discusses in detail a framework that organizations can use on itself to determine how capable they are of developing and maintaining systems; as such the model is a an effective instrument for organizational improvement.

The course is presented as a combination of lectures and class exercises. As an attendee, you are encouraged to participate and discuss the material so that you might better understand what the CMMI means in terms of your own organization. Most importantly, Introduction to CMMI helps prepare you to make valid, informed judgments on how an organization performs its processes areas. The course helps identify the strategic issues to be addressed in performing process improvement as structured by the model.

Course Content

  • Process and Maturity Model Fundamentals
  • The structure of the Continuous representation of the CMMI model
  • Project Management Process Areas
  • Support Process Areas
  • Engineering Process Areas
  • Process Management Process Areas
  • Integrated Product and Process Development Process Areas
